I've used Skype for many years but haven't really investigated the others.  I have a landline number with Skype so it suits me

We used Skype for several years at work and it worked seamlessly. We have now switched to MS Teams and it's been nothing but bugs, faults and irritation for many staff and seems to need loads of MS updates - which fixes one bug and causes another.

All landline phones will use Voip by next year, irrespective of service providers.

If you're looking for a multi-platform alternative to Skype though (which can be used on PCs, Macs, Android phones, iPhones, Huawei phones, etc), Viber might be your best bet:

As far as I know Skype can be used on all of those platforms, too.

Thanks for all replies. if it was just for me I am content with my mobile but my wife dislikes mobiles and prefers a conventional phone. My broadband contract ends soon and this is why I am looking to go to VOIP before the point of having no choice in the matter.

I don't quite see the ending of your broadband contract having relevance to your need for VOIP.

Because with the end of my contract I wish to take a deal with no phone line .

So it's the end of your landline contract, too.  Got it now.

If you get good 4G or 5G signal in your home have you considered mobile broadband?  It can be cheaper, just stick the SIM card in to a suitable router, no faff

Question Author

My wife who uses the phone far more than me wants a conventional phone.

With the right router you can plug a conventional phone in to 4G/5G mobile network.

Here's one - I'm not recommending it, it's just an example so you can see what I mean.

In fact I wouldn't recommend that one as it is 4G only and technology is moving at a pace

After making numerous inquiries I am going with Andrews & Arnold  for both phone and service. Thanks for all replies.

I'm interested to know why you chose that company, donny

Question Author

My son has recently used them for his business, was very happy with them so had the same system at home. I did not realise that this had happened before I started looking.

Thanks for taking the time to reply
