Got a wedding Saturday - don't want to wear a tie though. I am wearing a nice charcoal suit with a pale pink shirt - I think it look sfine without a tie, but the missus reckons that etiquette dictates I wear one. It is a church wedding but knowing the groom well I know he won't be bothered either way. Just need to guage opinions really.
papparazi would be all over the place. :-) Everyone has a different opinion on this but at end of day its down to you. There is no need for people to say you'd look scruffy if you didnt. My bloke definately didnt look like worzel gummage, he looked a hotty
it is most definately 'in' not to wear a tie to a wedding nowadays..however some weddings have a particular dress code so I would ask them first.
When we got married two years ago several guests turned up at our informal wedding with no ties. They looked great, and as has already been said as long as the suit is more casual and not double breasted you will look very smart without a tie.
My sister got married last year and Mr Pippa bit the bullet and turned up in his suit and shirt...no tie. He looked gorgeous! the only thing he couldn't get away with was trainers. Justin Timberlake can get away with it though :o)
Any man who wears a suit, any suit without a tie is not a real man in my opinion.
I have not been to finishing school (I thought they were only for girls)? but I DO have standards
It's less to do with standards and more to do with fashion and practicality. I see many men coming out of church on a sunday wearing jeans or chinos and definately no tie.
Put it this way ~ my son's school has a uniform policy which includes polo shirts and sweatshirts only. They haven't worn ties since the early 80's.
Last year a poll was taken where the parents were asked if they wanted the uniform to include shirts and ties. The answer was 92% in favoour of a big fat NO. The students come out of school looking exactly the same as they went in the morning ~ polo shirts looking smart. The other school (a CofE boys school) have their pupils coming out with their shirts all skew whiff and their ties somewhere down by their waists.
That's fine when it comes to school uniforms Pippa (I'm against them BTW, in my opinion it "regiments" kids), however, in my opinion a man must wear a tie with a suit or shirt and jacket combo. I would not be seen dead without a tie if I was wearing a suit, I don't even undo my tie when the weather is hot, but hey ho, thats just me
