Granite is heat, scratch, and chemical resistant. Marble can be susceptible to 'heat shock', scratches more easily, and any stains are next to impossible to remove.
For your edification, Edukes...Marble is formed from sedimentary rock, laid down in a marine environment in the same way as chalk and limestone. Volcanic it sure ain't. In fact, overheated, it'll turn chalk-like.
Granite is not scratch and chemical resistant. Put some acid on somebodys granite work tops and they will discolour. Even acid as weak as vinegar. Red wine will stain them. Knives will also scratch.
