Hello peeps. I'm 29 and have just applied for the army - because I need something different in my life after being stuck in a dead-end job for 12 years! I just wondered if anyone has any experience of what it is like? Is it like you see on the TV!? I have heard really good reports and feel I'm up for a challenge. Any advice would be great! Thanks
Hi
I was a (male) S/Sgt in the RAMC and I can tell you it's a great career.
Do it, you'll love it, you get to travel the world, learn a trade, life skills, self discipline, get fit, make life long friends, earn a good salary and get a good pension.
Of course with Service life comes certain drawbacks like long periods away from home/family, however the pluses of Service life far far out-weigh the negatives
Go for it I served nine years and enjoyed every minute in fact I wish i had stayed in and done the full term however getting married changed my prioritys Good Luck !!!
Thank-you. Knowing my luck it'll amount to nothing but I'm keeping my fingers-crossed as I really need something like this. I don't know how easy it is to get into but I think I'm a good catch!
Make sure you enlist in a regiment that will suit your needs. Its no good joining the catering corps if you want to be a musician. Likewise don't join the infantry if you prefer to learn a skill that will be some use when you come out, etc.
I'm not entirely sure how it works - don't you have to do the initial 'soldier' training before eventually choosing which part you want to go into? I know there's tons to choose from, haven't really thought that far ahead yet though!
