Soaps, by definition, stand absolutely no analysis what ever - they simply collapse.
Why in EastEnders, if everyone hates everyone so much - does no-one move out of The Square?
Why does everyone in all soaps have a turn at working in the shop / pub / factory / garage?
Why does no-one have any kind of social live that doesn't revove around the pub - going to the cinema, watching TV - having a normal conversation?
As I say, the soap opera is a unique dramatical construction which works as long as it is viewed entirely superficially - like the walls in Crossroads - there is no strength or subtance anywhere.
