Why don't we just get someone like Cliff Richard or Elton John to sing in Eurovision for us instead of relying on crappy newcomer bands/singers.

the reason for that was visited by "Father Ted" - if the BBC were to field anyone even half good, there's a very real possibility that they will be saddled with the huge expense of hosting next year's show.
