Basildon Council, regarding Dale Farm, and after listening to one woman bleat on about police brutality, their rights, and that fires will be set outside Parliament, are they finally going, at least from the illegal part of the site, i wonder.
I hope the all the Councils adopt the same strategy that they have in Ireland. I understand they have powers to move them immediately. No messing. It beggars belief that it's taken 10 years to get this far. Now they have rent-a-mob to help them, I hope the police get tough. They are well aware of the consequences.
In Northern Ireland sites have been made available and bungalows built but they have been a partial success. On one site the travellers have embraced the concept of no longer being travellers and have made and maintained gardens, and keep the small estate immaculate. on another the exact opposite, within weeks of moving in, the built in kitchens were sold, holes knocked in walls and electrical cables run out to their caravans where they'd returned to live. Inside a year all these houses were demolished and the council moved the travellers on.
On the basis that all the pikey vehicles are taxed and insured ie: traceable...will the inland Revenue being doing a forensic back check to see where all the money came from to pay for all thier high end caravans ,cars , 4X4 etc etc. ?
AOG-Doc's saying that the travellers are flouting the law, yet are now suddenly screaming about them from the rooftops (well, caravan roofs) AT the police.
I totally agree with Doc too, funny how they're trying to make the law work for them in this instance isn't it?
notasyoungas, thought that the space might be need for an alien invasion, a la close encounters....
" Where I live and where my parents live, any spare land in the last few weeks has had huge boulders placed on it at both ends, presumably to stop them moving onto it? We can't think of any other reasons. "
as to Loftylottie not being on the thread, i know but she made reference to the story before.
I'm here now Vulcan. We have a brand new site only four miles away. Built for the travellers are a long battle to get get planning permission with lots of objections from locals. Travellers turned up in numbers at the council meetings, together with their supporters and in the end they got their site. It has never been used in the six months or so it has been ready for use.
It's far from being an isolated case.
And as has been said on another thread, some of these purpose built sites have been trashed and are now empty. It is the likes of you and I that are paying for these sites.
That's not the way I read it Boo, he was criticising the police, hence is referral to thee use of the taser and the shotgun cabinet.
If he was meaning what you said, then I must apologise to him, but perhaps it would have prevented the confusion if he had referred to the travellers in his second paragraph.
His use of the word 'they' I took it to mean the police.
