This is to be classed by the police as a hate crime, had it been an attack by a gang of whites upon a black person, it would have been an entirely different matter.

It would then have certainly been classed a racial attack and some ABers would have be clambering to post their utter disgust at such a cowardly and savage attack.

Interesting to note that Det Insp Dave Moores said:

What conclusions does he mean, that two poor defenceless young white men were attacked by a mob of eight Asian youths, and it was not a racial attack, what other conclusion could one come to?

The attackers were almost certainly British born. As was probably their fathers and possibly their grandfathers. Most of the asians are Bangladeshis who's ancestors arrived in the 1950's to work in the Cotton Mills.

just goes to show the difficulties of trying to construct a capital case on the basis of a Mail report. It's being treated as a race crime. It's being treated as a hate crime. Might we be better advised to wait and see what the police actually come up with? They are the ones investigating, after all, and probably have more access to the facts than the Mail.

To answer the OP.......Its shocking, the men who attacked the lads should have the book thrown at them but whether or not it should be classed as a racial attack I have no idea. If they attacked them because of their colour or made comments about their colour or called them names about it then I guess it should be classed as that, if not then it will probably be a hate crime.

there is a hate crime fred. I know someone who had charges against him and on the paperwork it said something about hate and something about racist... cant remember the exact wording but it had the word hate in the charges....

Why is a racist attack or so called hate crime treated more serious than any other random attack? If someone gets attacked in the street by some gang then then the reason is irrellevent. It's just as serious.
