all those lives wasted, i hope that this works but fear that it won't in the long term.
I also think the women will still struggle for any
kind of equality....
I thought the Americans originally went in to Afghanistan to cut off the world supply of heroin and therefore destroy the poppy crops prolifically grown there. Has that just been abandoned or do they think they can trust the Afghan Army to continue the purge on this highly lucrative trade? The lure of back handers and the odd decapitated policeman will surely keep the trade going . I can't see this plan working out.
Or he's playing a blinder. Giving the Taliban a little slack, so when they inevitably do something preposterous, he has an excuse to say "we tried peace, now we're going to wipe them out".
Yep. He said if they don't play the game he will send the troops back in again and they will see the likes of which the world has never ever seen before!
they are pulling the troops out, so that's got to be a good thing, all it's done is waste the lives of good people. If the heroin trade increases because of it, sorry if there wasn't a demand there wouldn't be a supply..
i don't want to see any more British and American lives lost there.
Of course it will work. Bigly. The Taliban will execute any terrorists in order that the US and others will pull all troops from the area. Once that has been achieved, it's back to growing shed loads of opium poppies and the Draconian rule for which the Taliban are famed - probably with women as the main victims. But, hey, as long as they are keeping to their part of the bargain as regards terrorists. The Donald for Peace Prize anyone?
To combat the illegal drugs trade the only thing that will ever work is to bring the production and distribution of currently illegal drugs into a controlled and legal domain.
