Because it is the only religion that specifically states that it's most Holy scripture is the LITERAL WORD OF GOD. Sorry to 'shout', but it needs pointing out.
When a passage in the Bible says something like, “.... and God destroyed 'X, Y and Z' because of immorality, etc...” no one really believes that that particular event actually took place (okay, some might - but some people will believe anything, no matter how illogical and/or impossible).
However, when we look at the Quran, every Muslim schoolboy or schoolgirl is told that every single word in this book is the word of God Himself. Therefore, you cannot modify or reinterpret what is written – it is what it is. It is immutable.
Islamic quotes can never be taken out of context because of the very 'fact' that God has written them. And as God is both Omnipresent and Omnipotent, He knows exactly how His quotes were, will be and shall be, interpreted.
And like it or not, there are some pretty unpleasant passages in these sacred pages that many people who have been raised as 'Muslims' find pretty unpalatable. Without revisiting old ground, I think it's fair to say that both you and I have words about Mohammed's choice of brides.
