I'll do this here instead of on another thread that made me think of it. Does it annoy you when people use words in the wrong way or use the wrong word in a sentence?
For example, my boyfriend frequently says the word "went" instead of "gone". Like, "We could have went there". It reeealllly grates on me.
Can't stand people who cannot differentiate bewteen me and I when talking about two people, such as He gave the tickets to John and I. Simple solution, what would it be if the tickets were given to you only, would it be "tickets to I" or "tickets to me".
Saw this in a menu last year; Pan fried fillet steak with an accompaniment of french fries, served with a chaperon of mixed salad....I nearly tore the menu up!
I hate being called "Chap" as in: "you OK Chap!" Really grinds on me Grrrrr
I once remember an argument with my 15 year old Step Daughter, discussing a local breakwater, she said she had been on "Pow Wall", I had no idea what she was talking about. I eventually sussed that she had been on Pout Wall, she insisted I was wrong and it was in fact called "Pow Wall" even going to the point of saying that the name has probably changed over the years!
What's wrong with garidge? Should it be gar-arrge? I know someone who pronuonces turmeric as tumrick; she is so conviinced to the point where I once asked "Has it got turmeric in?" and she didn't know what I was referring to.
hhmmm thought of a couple more since I've seen some of your suggestions.
People who pronounce tooth as tuth.
People who pronounce baby as bab-y. I don't know if it's a regional thing but I know some of my brothers-in-law family in Staffordshire use it as though they think it's the way it should be said and I can't stand it.
