Has anybody noticed that Andrex seems to have changed and become poorer quality. Don't know when it happened as we buy in bulk when it's on offer, we then pile them in a store cupboard and don't always rotate our stock. Interested in your opinion and recommendations on alternatives. Feels like we are going back to Bronco, that shows my age.
See the 'related question' (from 4½ years ago!) below.
It might be that the manufacturers have responded to concerns about the number of toilets and sewer pipes which have become blocked due to excessively thick toilet paper. This is from 2004

and there have been loads of similar reports from there on.
I see that the problem goes back nearly 5 years, must take some of mine to the Antiques Roadshow. Thanks for all your replies, Sharon you made me laugh, my bum feels like I've been using 40 grit.
The cheaper the better for bog roll, why pay for a brand name to wipe your bum? I lived 3 years in Zambia where the locals use 'mealie cob' husks for bottom cleansing ( mealie cobs are sweet corn ! you eat the sweet corn and keep the 'stalk' to clean your bum after the sweet corn has come out the 'other end')
Couldn't agree with you more, sapiesam. For ages I have used, Morrisons or Sainsbury's toilet roll, but a couple of weeks ago, I thought I'd treat myself and buy some, Andrex.
I couldn't believe how poor it was, and it also seems to have become, narrower.
I just buy the cheapest stuff from the cash&carry. I don't know why anyone needs expensive quilted stuff.
I remember we had the tracing paper stuff at school. I wouldn't want go back to that.
Funnily enough I have just discovered Andrex quilted and find it OK. With regard to Izal, I only ever used it for tracing, not for the purpose for which it was designed. I'm also old enough to remember Bronco. That was luxury compared to some of the other stuff on offer.
