I don't really follow a faith as such and I suppose you'd consider me largely a disbeliever but I feel very culturally Jewish but I was brought up in a Pagan environment so with mad splashes of that chucked in. I always struggle when people ask about religion because I never quote feel I ft into any one box because I feel spiritual but not truly religious. If I have to answer I generally say Jewish or Pagan depending on who is asking and why.
I used to be a hard atheist but now I lean more towards agnostic. I still don't follow any faith though and I certainly don't believe in the afterlife or man-with-beard-as-creator-of-the-universe.
On forms, if asked, I write; Taoist/Buddhist/Christian which is about right.
When I went into hospital last year the lady asked, "Does that mean you need a special diet?" I said, "yes, but not one of food"
None but I sometimes use Pagan deity symbolism in meditation, as it helps me focus . I do not believe in those deities but rather in the powers or strengths they have come to represent. For example when struggling creatively I might meditate on an image of a goddess of smithcraft, or the mother goddess to clear in my thoughts what I need to do. Not asking for guidance just using them as a tool like a candle or singing bowl.
Both sides of the theist/atheist argument can argue forever and neither will change their stance because faith defies proof
Nims - Dawkins DOES believe in the multiverse. Plenty of evidence of him scrabbling around like a rat in a rubbish tip looking for evidence to support his dream.
Look into it yourself?
I was brought up with a faith but left it at 14 when I realised it made no sense...a nonsense if you like. I must admit I left it late...I stopped believing in father christmas a few years before.
