I want to get rid of twenty feet of trailing wire from hall phone socket (only socket in house) and have wi fi internet connection. I am not interested in networking other PCs.
What do I need to buy?
Phone socket has my broadband connection inc. filter in it.
I have seen that you can buy a "connect to internet via the mains" which seems to be a straightforward mains plug with router?
All I am looking to do is get rid of the trailing cable. Unfortunately I do not have a mains supply next to the telephone socket.
No you can buy a connect to the router via mains, the router still needs to be plugged into the telephone socket.
no matter what you do you are still going to need a router connected to your phone socket, if you use wireless then you will need a wireless router connected to the phone socket.
If you have twenty spare feet of phone wire cant you just clip it round door frames and skirting boards, so that you can put your phone socket near a mains plug.
Or cut the phone wire near the socket leaving a few inches attached so that you can identify your wires....remove all the excess...and refit the wires accordingly into the faceplate of the socket...you can buy a plastic punchdown tool for around 1.. to remake your connections.
Or if you haven't got enough wire ...run it round as far as you can and fit a junction box ...get some more phone wire and extend as far as need be...then refit your socket.
