You should always have at least one anti-malware program available on your computer. The Malwarebytes product is generally regarded as the best available but some people like to have Spybot Search & Destroy as well:

(You can have as many similar programs as you like because you'll only ever run one at a time,so the will be no conflicts).
Anti-malware programs are not the same as anti-virus programs. With those, you should only have just one on your computer, as they run 'in the background' and system conflicts could occur if you had more than one. The most popular freebies are probably AVG Free Edition
