Did you find this one? I though it was OKish. http://www.historic66.com/description/map.html
Virtually all the original route in the east is lost to more modern roads. Obviously you can break off the modern route to go through the old towns but the most satisfying parts are in the west - to the west of Alberqueque.
The modern route equivalent from here is now the I-40. There is a section of original R66 between Flagstaff and Kingman that runs parallel to the I-40 and is the real business.
Thanks for the info, I just find it hard to plan the journey with basic info. It be cool if there was a site that tells you the best places to stop and stay for the night etc...
I have seen several travel books here in the US on traveling route 66. You may be able to go on line to Borders
or any of the online book dealers and order a book on traveling Route 66. I can't remember any of the authors but you should be able to find several titles on the subject.
