I mean one you just could not put down so eager to find out what happened next?
There are thousands to choose from at random in the library but taking pot luck at a title usually disappoints. Papillon is one of mine and The Star of the Sea. I would welcome recommendations.Thanks.

agree ag Ch - I have been recommended Trouble by Farrell
I found David Copperfield - I bought it for a Belgian friend and thought o I am not sure he will read it - so sat down and read it for ten hours - and then another ten hours the next day .... I couldnt believe it but understood how Dickens earned so much money .....
For me it was Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro.
My Grandfather gave me Dracula by Bram Stoker when I was about 13. I couldn't put it down but it gave me nightmares for weeks
Mazie, you've just reminded me of a book I read by Ishiguro. The Unconsoled. I loved that and couldn't put it down.

Another was Donna Tartt's 'The Secret History'.
Any Rebus book ..gone in a day !
Must have a look at that Jo. Thanks xx
Welcome...I'd also recommend Lie With Me :)
Sorry xx
Nicholas Nickleby
Glad you liked Lie With Me, too, Jo. Thought you spent all your time giving great answers to cryptic clue problems on AB, so good to hear that you give yourself some 'time off'!. Did you see what was coming towards the end? Had a look in Waterstones today for her other two books (Under Your Skin; Remember Me This Way), but they seem to be out of print/unavailable.
Most Tom Sharpe novels on first reading for me. 'Fat' by Rob Grant is an excellent read.
Sorry, gg... Lo, no :)

I didn't expect that.... I thought her friend was...ooh can't say ;) The other two I borrowed from my local library, but I think Lie With Me is the best one.

Also enjoyed House on Cold Hill by Peter James, and I See You by Clare Mackintosh.
