I am ordering a phone for someone for Xmas (landline) - and this time there will be caller display on the phone. Now I have one but have had one for a long time.

I "chatted" to BT and they said "oh it is free now". Call Display. I thought I always paid for it.

Anyhow - does the "new" phone need to be registered for Call Display. Thanks

jenny, as you already have a similar phone you surely know how it works. You know how to input the names and numbers and you know the name comes up when somebody calls.

that's right Barry - my phone would be probably more difficult than the one I will be buying cos my phone has more options on it (for the deaf)

I know sister will like it cos she is lost without the display due to the unwanted call so she literally doesn't answer nearly all of her calls then does 1471 and she then rings back. So it will be great for her to be able to answer the calls right away.
You can also get phones that actually speak the caller's name/number as well as displaying it on a screen. I have a Panasonic with this feature as well as "call-block"etc.

thanks gingebee - that's good to know
Have you looked at my link for the call blocker phone? Any unknown number (one not in her stored numbers) has to announce who they are before the phone rings. Number withheld calls are automatically blocked.
Scammers and cold callers don't bother announcing themselves so she won't even know they've called unless she checks the call history.
She can block any number by pressing the big green button in the middle. So easy. I have bought one for all my elderly relatives.

This is just a paragraph from the phone I was thinking of and it has said you must subscribe for caller display to work or are they just referring to the unwanted call business.

////Simple to use and with a large display, this BT Decor 2200 corded phone is easily accessible, stylish and highly functional. Bursting with features it contains a nifty 50 number memory, enabling you to easily keep in touch with your contacts - while the caller ID allows you to ignore all those unwanted calls. (You must subscribe to a caller display service for this to work. Charges may apply. )./////
The caller display has to be requested, as I said on the previous page. It is free.
