The worst enemy of granite worktops is lemon/orange juice, vinegar, or wine. The expensive, dense, granite tops are usually not going to give the average user any trouble for years to come. They are polished and sealed when being prepared for supply and installation and if they are not a crap product supplied by a dodgy dealer and baring accidents or vandalism will need minimal care. If however you are clumsy and prone to acidic spills you are best to go for a manmade product that is impervious to all liquids. Somehow I don't think that Naomi or LadyCG are the types to slosh their white wine about like farmers, or to spill acid wantonly. I have seen lime stone tops, sold as marble, that have rotted into deep hopes that stink like bad eggs after having a lemon sliced on them. Despite being a jolly good children's tv show once the wooden tops are a nightmare.
