The older I become the less interest I have of the Christmas period. Some would just call me miserable, is the latter the case, or do you feel the same way as you age.

Ridiculously materialistic, over inflated dross. I am forced into this farce every year. There's lots of sighing to come.

Forced into it -  you made me laugh David.

This is the first year ever that I haven't looked forward to Christmas. Usually I'm like a big kid with decorating the tree, the house, buying and wrapping presents etc etc, but after this year being so difficult what with one thing and another (mainly pain after my accident last year), I've found a lot of things v v difficul, and I feel a real killjoy. Just hoping that I have a complete change of heart and a real perk up soon : )

I know how you feel smow.  2022/23 have been the worse years of my life.  Nothing but illness and accidents.  I've turned into a real old crock and misery.

Lottie....... next year will be better .

For just under 30 years after I got married, I cooked the Christmas dinner and also on Boxing Day. Mum came to both, but in 1997 she died and to me, Christmas was never the same.

For 50 years she had been there at Christmas and then she wasn't there anymore, and although I had children and now grandchildren, it will never be the same without my Mum.

you're the mum and grandmother now, Barsel, and I expect the kids think it's just as vital to have you there.

We're currently planning on spending next Christmas and new year in Gran Canaria.

Hohoho.

"being a parent of an adult, I'm not too bothered, but being the grandparent of a small child I'll happily do anything to put smiles on faces."

My first Grandad Christmas this one will be 😁

Congrats, grandad Jonny. Lovely !

No kids in the family but friends all have them, so I am on my own for the holidays. I give presents to my closest family a week or so before  i.e mum, sister, brother in law, and a couple of very good friends. Lay in a stock of snack food and find a good drama series to binge watch. It's only a couple of days before normality returns.

jno, I never thought of it like that. I hope so.

Thanks Anne.  I hope so.  We also lost Mr L's sister this year and have a legal battle going on regarding her death and fraudulent behaviour regarding her will.  Horrible, horrible 2023!

I like tradition and I think it's important to uphold our traditions, but I 'do' Christmas for other people really.  I like buying them presents.

I'm , now, the only person I know in my family who looks forward to Christmas. It is a tradition I love. Besides being a religious celebration I think of it as typically English, old and quirky. I know it's not exclusive to England but it reminds me of a winter country scene complete with snow, robins and log fires with the smell of pine (needles) etc etc.

Xmas, it's a celebration of which we can opt out of if we wish.

we may not get quite as excited as when we were children, but now our position has changed to grannies aunties, . See children at Xmas time it's great'.

someone now makes our Xmas dinner . Woo hoo .

Anne //someone now makes our Xmas dinner . Woo hoo .//

One of the best parts of it, is to be waited on by somebody else.

It is. 😃
