Floella mentioned something about having a coil fitted which stopped her periods.
I don't have a family (but planning to in the future), not concentration n a BF till after uni!
Does this hurt? I've seen pics of them and I'm frightened to death of it. I DETESTE having smears, although I do go as and when required, so i imagine it's like this...
Hi jeanette - I had two types of coil fitted in my early years. Personally, they didn't agree with my body & seemed to make my monthlies more painful, so I couldn't wait to have them taken out again. It was a little uncomfortable having them fitted & removed, but nothing to get too upset about.
However, my friend had one fitted for donkeys years without any problems at all.
Everyone's different, so you can only give it a go & see how you get on.
I had a normal coil fitted for years with no bother. The one that can stop your periods is called the marina coil I think. In my experience it didn't hurt at all and you would never know you even had it.
I'm on my second, the first fitted and performed OK, but the second made me cramp badly until my period. It can make your periods heavier, but once it's in and settled I've found it OK. I don't know about it stopping periods - perhaps it was impragnated with a hormone? I had the coil because I hated the idea of taking hormones (ie the pill).
Hi Jeanette, it doesn't hurt at all, I don't even know its there. It did make my periods worse for the first six months but now I have no problems. It didn't hurt having it fitted, its just like having a smear, same amount of discomfort.
It might be worth asking your GP.
my pals have discussed this hormone coil - one thing i have a real problem with is that apparently you have to have them fitted during a period. OMG! can't imagine anything more horrid. I suffer from really heavy periods, but the thought of intervention makes me so tense, i can only just about cope with a smear (although last time i was in floods of tears, next time i'm going to ask for some gas & air - seriously!) the idea of a hormone coil sounds g8 to me, but the fitting is the problem. One very uncomfortable smear years ago has left me with a phobia - big time!
Never had one but they can come out. You might find it in your knickers. Sometimes they go the other way though, babies have been known to come out holding the coil.
i had one fitted just recently and was told that the copper coil works just as well as the marina coil but without the hormones! the marina coil is used mostly for women in their 40's to help with the menopause! The whole thing was very uncomfortable but worth it as a already have 3 children and was less painful then giving birth!
