Am I missing something.. but what was the significance of the baby in Kings X Stn after Harry got zapped by "you-know-who" and was talking to Dumbledore?
Very near the end of the book Harry says to Voldermort "I have seen what you will become" (can't be sure where as I've lent the book to a friend) and I took it to mean that the baby was the soul of Voldermort being punished in the afterlife. If not, then I've no idea either and hope someone has the answer.
Some people - including me - haven't read the book yet, so please could you try and avoid putting bits of the plot in your question where they're harder to avoid reading. Thanks.
I thought that the baby represented the part of Voldemort that had combined with Harry at the moment that Voldemort killed Harry's mother. It's withering represented the death of that part of Harry and the severing of the connection between them which enabled Harry to Kill Voldemort.
When does Harry say that to Voldemort? If it after the King's Cross scene when they duel perhaps Harry is referring to the baby.
I can't remember where the quote is in the book and I can't refer to it as my daughter is reading it at the moment.
I've re-read it and it's definitely the part of Voldemort's soul that had attached to Harry.
The whole last quarter of the book has to be re-read, I think, just to get an actual grip of what has happened. I found I read it too quickly due to intrigue, excitement and speed of plot the first time round.
I'd like to think Voldemort had a similar conversation with Dumbledore in some abstract place of his inadvertant choosing and that infant part of his soul helped him in some way.
When Voldemort's curse hits Harry he falls unconscious and wakes up in Kings Cross Station where there is a baby that is a damaged, patheticly crying creature. When Harry wakes up he finds Voldemort has also been unconscious. They've both been in a type of limbo - Harry didn't die because he has sacrificed himself and love is the one thing that can defeat a Killing Curse (why Harry survived as a baby in the first place) and Voldemot didn't die because Nagini the Horcrux was still alive. The baby is the remainder of Voldemort's soul, the small 7th part of a sould that's left. That's why Dumbledore says "there's nothing to do for it now" and Harry says "I've seen what you'll become". The babyis all that's left of Voldemort's soul to go on to the afterlife.
