Took our cat for her booster , and she needs dental treatment , she is a rescue moggie so don't know what her diet was , she's about 4 years old , and a lovely girlie but was a bit shocked when I asked "how much " 140 but could be more . We will have her sorted but how do they justify that charging that price ?

Shocking isn't it?

No idea why they charge so much, but I happen to think they do a brilliant (?) job of making sure that keeping our pets healthy is a luxury!

Good thing we have no council tax to pay for 2 months as that will pay the vets bill , so every cloud has a silver lining !!
Are they giving her her boosters at the same time?

Boosters - around 30. Consult - 15-30.

Dental operation: if just sedated (e.g. just scale and polish): cost of sedative (30+) plus cost of dental itself (50+) plus cost of antibiotics and painkiller (see below).

If anaesthetic required (e.g. for tooth extractions if teeth are bad): anaesthetic 30-60, tooth extraction 30-60, post op antibiotics 5-10, potential course of antibiotics 30, pre op painkillers 5-10 if not more.

Your vet should be able to give you a breakdown of what everything costs at the time, as you have every right to know - just ask.

She had the booster which was 30 , she has to be sedated , one tooth out , also has an abcess on a fang , her teeth will also be descaled , and her claws cut .
She has always had a good diet with us , but as a CPL moggie who knows what she fed on ... who cares she's worth it .. like I said no council tax to pay ....
Why do you think that is expensive? Expensive compared to what?

I have just had an aerial fitted to my roof. Took 15 mins and they charged 159 quid!! That didn't involve an anasthetic and the fitters I'm sure didn't have to go to university for 7 years like vets do!
It's well worth the money. She'll be in tip-top condition when everything's been done - x
