This is very tenuous, but does anybody know the poem with the lines something like I do not like the human race, I do not like its dirty face, I know I've misquoted but I hope somebody recognises it. Thank you.
Sorry I've been so long in replying, I've been too busy to switch the computer on. Thank you for the interest you have taken.I'll keep trying to find the poem and will let you know if I do.
I wish I loved the Human Race;
I wish I loved its silly face;
I wish I liked the way it walks;
I wish I liked the way it talks;
And when I'm introduced to one
I wish I thought What Jolly Fun!
I think Sir Walter Raleigh wrote it but I am not absolutely sure of that.
That's Sir Walter Raleigh (1861-1922) not the Elizabethan one. Had me puzzlling there. 'Silly face' and 'jolly fun' didn't sound like sixteenth century English !LOL
