This is our long term plan. Unfortunately, it had to be put on hold when my BF lost his job. It is not going to be easy, but something we are going to pursue once he is back in work (although he may end up buried under the patio).

Get land .. land which can be built on .. or interest in it.
Before long you will develop the urge to get stuck in.
One step at a time ..
It's more straitforward than you think.
Take the chance to build what you always wanted.
The best self-build I saw were character properties .. Green Oak timber-framed buildings.
Amazing what you can achieve.
Try to get "some" finance on it. You will not lose on it.
When we moved into this house it had been almost gutted by fire. We had to fit a complete kitchen, knocked a wall down and replastered walls added an annexe to the back, replaced the windows and doors, roof and guttering. Fitted wardrobes and doors and a new bathroom suite. We have moved house eight times since we were married, and wev'e been here 20 years now, this is the longest we have lived anywhere. Mr.ask wants to move now he said he's done enough.
