Why is Saturday night TV crap?

With the credit crunch, many people now stay in on Saturday night. Why don't the TV companies try to entice us to watch their channels. It is all rubbish TV imo. I may have to change the habits of a lifetime and start to go out on a Saturday night.

I probably watch a total of 12 hours of tv a week, if there is a good 2 hour series like Midsomer Murders on.
I can't sit in front of the tv looking for something to watch - I turn it on to watch a particular programme and turn it off after.
I can't watch tv in the morning - it just seems wrong. Tv is for the evenings as far as I'm concerned.
Only a fool would dismiss all tv as rubbish. A lot of tv is, but it can be entertaining, informative and educational.
Some of the finest tv I have seen, in my opinion, is the Sunday afternoon family series put on by the BBC, such as The Phoenix and the Carpet, Stig
of the Dump and The Borrowers.
No chance of me going to far flung places, so I'm very glad David Attenborough does.
And you know, when you've had a carp day a bit of light relief in the form of a sitcom or panel show is a life saver.
I hate programmes like Jeremy Kyle so just don't watch them.
I can't understand how an adult can play computer games for hours and hours on end, in a trance, but each to their own.

Go out on Saturday night? To where? How? Public transport rubbish. Then there is the walk from the bus stop. Can't afford a theatre or cinema ticket and a late taxi. Not much fun dining out alone. Pubs here still do not welcome lone women.

I was so disappointed with it having read the books .
Stephen Tomkinson is wooden and nothing like the character in the books .In fact none of them are anything like the characters in the books .I love a good thriller or detective type thing but this was the pits .
BBC4 is good on a Saturday .I watched Wallander with lovely Rolf Lassgard which is superb and then the History of Ceramics for a bit of culture .It was really interesting ..if you like that sort of thing :)
