Not long been back from Kent.
As funerals go it was a really good service.
My brother did not go as he said he wouldn't want to cause a scene with his ex-father-in-law, but he sent a bouquet of flowers to the crematorium with a message in Latin so his ex-father-in-law didn't know who they were from.
As he said. "There's more than one way to skin a cat."

Glad it went as well as could be expected.
sorry to hear that, parkdale

in-law relationships can always cause issues - not a bad way to handle it, and I might just remember that "trick".....
How were the kids?

They were brilliant thanks ummmm. The middle one did a Bible reading, the youngest, who is a Policeman and got special permission to wear his dress uniform, read a poem, and the eldest had everyone in stitches, reading out a history of the family which was compiled by all three of them.
The poem, in fact, which was reproduced in the order of service, was beautiful.
It could be used for any funeral of any faith.
Thanks for your replies, all of you.
Parkdale. Sounds as if it was the best it could be in the circumstances and a lovely service. Can be difficult I know with ex family. Mine were great but the one annoying one still doesn't know what my Irish was. Gx

The poem, (which appears to anonymous is as follows:-

You can shed tears that she has gone
Or you can smile that she has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes ans see all she has left

Your heart can be empty because you cannot see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow
Or you can be happy because of yesterday

You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want, smile, open your eyes, love and go on..

nice poem parkdale
we had that poem read at MIL's funeral, - it seemed so appropriate. Apparently it was read at Queen Mother's funeral too.
We attended a funeral yesterday too, ours went off very well too.
