I do recall the horror of some whenout telephone code which was suitably posh and exclusive got merged with a sinkhole town.

The reaction from some of the locals was beyond belief......some actually wrote to the MP to vent their disgust, frustration and to DEMAND something was done to put it right.
Post code has nothing to do with the geographical area it depends only on which sorting office handles the mail for that area.
OMG, if 237SJ is right, then The Compleat Angler has a Slough postcode.

(checks, nervously)

Yikes, it does! SL7

(deletes Compleat Angler from restaurant address book)
You`ll have to find somewhere else to go JJ. You could try TW9 - that`s quite posh.
Windsor Castle has a Slug postcode.........
Our address, post-code and phone number are in three separate places, in fact across two counties.
Estate agents are among the worst culprits, people looking for property advertised in Worsley, Greater Manchester often find themselves in Walkden, a different prospect altogether.
I don't care what post code I have but if it pushes up my insurance I most certainly do. , snobbery is for me never a factor. I remember some years ago my house insurance went up by 40% with the Norwich Union because of our house code. . They refused to bring it down and I with thousands of others changed to other societies . Subsequently NU tried with costly adverts to get their customers back.
The use of a post code is a blunt instrument to assess an insurance risk, as a post code can cover a very large area.
I think the clink said Windsor Castle has it's own postcode. Do you go to the compleat angler, jj? It's not that far from me. (I DON'T live in Slough.lol).
Clink?...link
When I was growing up I had the same postcode as Dulwich Village (swanky area) - it used to make my family laugh as it was a half hour walk to Dulwich Village but a ten minute one to Peckham :c)
We have been to the Angler from time to time, yes.

The view over the weir (wier?) is great on a sunny day, and they have (still, I hope?) that big round table in the middle, where you can seat about twelve of you. It should have a big sign saying "Girls' Lunch" hanging over it.
I think there is only 3 houses in my postcode, I dont think I will bother changing.
we are in one county but our postcode is for a town in another. Even though GU is likely to be more prestigious than PO, I'd sooner be PO as its more 'Hampshire' ;-)
