Matakari, I don't think Pastels (12 D) can be right as 14 A is Esnes, sense backwards, and it means slaves.
Matakari, what's the parsing for your Presto at 24 D?
12d I was thinking 'Enamels' (Name [inside] Els [LL's]

NACW, Presto in music is a movement or passage directed to be played very quickly. I see post in it.
But where does FINE in the clue fit in.... and where does the RE come from to add to post?
What letters do you already have for it Matakari please?
Hi Bobbin, You need to read the preamble (20 clues have a superfluous
word that needs removing before the clue can be solved)
But I also cannot see 'Presto' fitting the clue.

I think I was led astray by the musical element in the googled word.
Thanks, Matakari - I just couldn't get Presto to completely work. I do have another musical one sorted - 38 A is Galant ( Gala +N(o)T)
Question Author
I got 38a thanks to Google. Thanks, NACW! I think I'll give this a rest until tomorrow!

Good morning, I’ve not abandoned yet. Hope you haven't yet either! Got the following, but unsure still.
Thanks in advance!

3d Loom, 9d Precis, 28d Noesis
21a Tensest ( tsetse, fly, and tent hidden? )

Anyone got the following?
16a Will's father tolerated medieval salt (7) :???EAC?
30 a Linnean Society audience first administers holy rite (7) : ???S??S
31a Old supplement outlines leaf identifications (7) : ???I???
37a Old cartoon dog in submersible craft (8, two words) : ?I???NE?
Morning, Matakari. I've given this puzzle only another quick glance. I felt 9 D could be Rhetor, speaker - anagram of 'shorter' minus the 's' (is avoiding). How does Precis work?
I have Kedgers for 21 A, by the way - Keds, flies, with Ger, tent, inside, Kedgers, anchors.

Thanks for the parsing, NACW, mine pales into insignificance in comparison. Your solving here is a veritable hallmark of erudition!
3d yes, ['afar' is extra].
28d yes, ['wallowing' is extra].
16a MALE(obscure, Shakespeare - 'father')+ ATE(obscure 'tolerated') ['medieval' is extra].
30a HOUSE ('audience') +LS def 'administers holy rite' (obscure).
31a PS ('supplement') (around) AGING = 'old'.
37a LI'L ABNER 'dog' = LAB(rador) inside LINER [submersible' is extra].
I've just looked back over this thread, and there are still two wrong answers that haven't been subsequently corrected (I think).
5d should be ACROSS - A is also the numeral for 50 and CROSS is an obscure synonym for 'balancing' ['item' is extra].
24d LOG(='fine') + GAT = 'piece of (Indian) music' - LOGGAT is a stake/'post'
Hi Prof M, I had 'Loggat' but couldn't see the parse.

I'm also toying with Aranda for 23a and Naeara for 7a
[23 being an anagram of 7a with E as D] (seven laterally)
But I can only find Naeara as a water nymph.
Any thoughts ?
23d {sorry}
Yes for 23d, klazomaniac - it's EPEIRA for 7a (which means the same as ARANEA but D for 'e' as you say).
Thanks for the clarification and epeira.
