I’ve just tried to open a jar of Frank Cooper’s marmalade and failed miserably. I’ve got a gadget that I’m usually successful with, but the edges of the lid slope so it can’t grip. I ran boiling water over the lid, still no luck. Anyone with any bright ideas please?
Stab it through the lid with a sharp knife and it will release and open easily by hand. Just need to remember when you opened it though as it won't then be airtight when you close the lid but ok as long as you use it up fairly quickly.
If you are going to stab the jar lid use an oven glove to hold the jar still so if the knife slips you've got some protection. If its hard to get hold of the jar with the glove hold it near to a wall on the work surface so it can't slip away.
I stab the lid with a sharp pointy implement..sometimes a fork, sometimes a metal bbq skewer, sometimes a pointy thing from the tool box. Works every time.
I keep opened jars in the fridge anyway, doesn’t matter if the lid is pierced or not, the seal is broken.
