Have any of you lovely gardeners hard pruned, into old thick wood, any of the following shrubs and had them live to see another year?!!  I read all the books but there's so much conflicting advice when it comes to renovation pruning.

Olearia haastii (Daisy bush)

Lonicera fragrantissima (winter honeysuckle - think this one will be ok)

Cotinus (smoke Bush).

Our village is having a Feria destock, (selling off old things before new stuff arrives) they close off the whole village and there's a pop band and drinks, and I love it, unfortunately I didn't have much money (Mr N being wise on this occason) so couldn't buy lots of rubbish! Mind you half the time the things are the same price or more!!!
All the shops sell from market stalls down the main strteet unless of course their shops are on the main street then they just take up the pavement!

It seems strange to me neti when someone's been to a hospital on a Saturday for something like that. I know they sometimes do pre arranged ops here at the weekend though. Glad you're going to get it sorted anyway...in the meantime slow down, don't break anything or produce any more offensive warts :o)

woofy, was the poster a known one? Remember it's the weekend.

Now why all & sundry are out & about in vest tops & driving open top cars is beyond me, t'aint that hot!
I know Robi, we were amazed at a hospital appointment for a Saturday and when we got there it was like a ghost town. so I started to worry that I had the wrong day, but on arriving at the consultant's waiting room it was heaving, so Mr N said he'd wait a while and then go cos I thought I'd be there all day, but right on the dot of my appointment I was called in, looked at and dispensed with! I think they are doing the consultancies (is that the right word?) to free the weekdays for the ops, as it is getting very overcrowed on this little island! I was well pleased that I ididn't have to hobble miles to Ibiza Town to get the hourly bus!
Robi i too am glad it was decluttering :-)....we ended up having a busy day. Dh needed a new gizmo from the Apple shop in town so we ended up nipping off and I beat up ikea (again) we had home made calzone for tea followed by chocolate cheesecake from M and S, DH is very chipper tonight so i will sleep okay.
Neti we luvs ya warts and all ha ha
<<< thwacks woofy! >>> do not mention my unmentionables again!!!

Been out for a curry and a couple of beers (I normally drink wine) It was v strange that in the restaurant there was a woman identical to Mr N's late mother, she had the same mannerisms, same dress sense face and hair identical, but we had to laugh as she was probably younger that we two (Granny N died at the early age of 62 so she didn't get old!) The blow me if Mr N's hippie sister look alike didn't bowl in, again identical noses, hair mannerisms and weirdness, that was enough for me, I got him home!!!
Ouch ouch! Neti what was in the beer?
Heavens knows and much as I like them, dead is dead!
could there be some family connection, neti? Two people looking like family members seems rather a big coincidence. Could they be cousins you don't know about or something?

We don't have ferias for recycling, just put unwanted stuff out on the pavement and it soon goes. We put out an old TV last year and a man actually arrived as we were shoving it around and asked if he could (a) help and (b) take it himself. We said no and yes, and off it went.
good morning all...normal service morning here...normal is lovely when you get it back. Dogs are flaked, I was starving so I just had a slice of cold calzone for first breakfast...delicious.
I am alive and well. My computer isn't. Broadband and computer are both playing up, so just taking the opportunity whilst I could get in to say good morning. I came into yesterday and the day before, made a comment on a couple of things before coming here and promptly got cut off - gave up for the rest of the day.

Hopefully son can put things right, but don't know about the broadband thing.

Off to Walberswick tomorrow for the day. Mr LL has an appointment there at Midday so Meggie and I are going as well. Hopefully a nice meal out too.

a'noon all...glorious day here, too nice to be indoors so I'm off outside shortly. It seems very slow on here, I think they've thrown some mogadon to the hamsters to try & put the trolls off posting.
Afternoon each and every! Glorious day here, we did the shopping this am (there is one supermarket allowed to open on Sundays since 2 weeks as the tourist season is among us) then we unpacked and took hija to San An for a ride around then had a paella lunch (I was still stuffed since last night and feeling quite uncomfortable) Back home have sunbathed for half an hour, Mr N is filling the pool, thank heavens as it is so hot, so am sitting in cool bedroom still struggling with DT GK crossword from yesterday!
Hello all I am reasonlessly grumpy today :-( hopefully ether tomorrow
Oh I know the feeling Woofy :)

Been lovely here today .Sat in the garden and was busy doing nothing in the sun ..oooh it does the old bones good .
Wish you all a bon nuit and sleep tight .See you tomorrow .

PS The last Lewis in this series was tonight Neti .Very good .
blowing a gale here - wonderful! Especially as it seems to be nice in the UK, so I won't feel bad about leaving. It's generally been a terrific two months, with only one wet day a week, plus you get polite neighbours, bellbirds and a million varieties of hummus. However, wedding duties summon us back...
Morning everyone.

Yes shaney I didn't know when Lewis was on and have just downloaded nos 2 +3 so will watch them later. I guess I've missed some of them! :0(

Am still in bed, but weather looks lovely outside the window. Hija is still partying! Will have to "shake a leg" soon!!!

jno I do hope the Royals appreciate your coming back especially for the wedding!

Good morning all, these mornings (and nights) are a tad chilly but I don't mind if the days are nice, I could live with this all summer.

Shaney my tv mag says last night's Lewis was number 3 of 4 so you've got another one to look forward to...unless you're going faster in Norfolk? :o) I did manage to stay awake to watch it all last night, it was good.
Good morning Everybiddy. Another lovely day. My garden is sorted, my washing is out and I've found a job I'm going to do before I go and enjoy the sun. I've emptied my cutlery drawer and am going to wash it out and all the bits and pieces that I keep in it. I'm surprised everytime i do it how many crumbs and bits and bobs gather in the bottom of it. Hope you all had a good weekend. I was down the 'Castle' yesterday walking with my sister. They have an English Garden down there and we like to have a look now and again. This time the tulips were all out giving brilliant colours. There were lots of other plants but I've no idea what their names are. Fuschia does of course. Don't know how she remembers them.
Me and my new neighbour have taken a step forward and had a good chat. She was burning all the rubbish in her back garden which is a good start. We talked about Ghosthunting and she says when they go they also collect for Charity which I thought was a good thing. So I'm pleased I took my time and kept my'gob shut'.

I'm intrigued to know what you are doing at The Wedding Jno. No doubtwe'll never really know but I hope you take some photos whatever you're doing and that you enjoy yourself.
I like the Lewis programme too. I thought there was one more as well. I hope I'm right.
I've got Footie tonight. Derby v QPR. My neighbour has acked me if I want to go over to their house and watch it as it's on Sky. So I'm really looking forward to it.

Right I'm off now have a good day - laters 'gaters
